The mission of VARSA is to reduce and prevent underage drug and alcohol use by engaging, educating and empowering the communities we serve.
Our purpose is to build a resilient, inclusive, and diverse community united in developing and sustaining a healthy environment where youth can grow up drug and alcohol free.
We treat our members and staff with the utmost respect and dignity. We treasure cultural and ethnic diversity, understanding the sensitivity of the issues we face together. We continually seek to understand and honor each person.
We place value both on the sense of community we maintain inside VARSA and on the way we weave ourselves into the fabric of the larger community. Our culture at VARSA is built on an ideal of equality and a spirit of teamwork, where all members are valued for their contributions.
Sisterhood's mission is to honor and empower girls, build connection, and create spaces for listening, sharing, mentorship, and support.
Sisterhood's unified response to our island community of girls is to build and implement protective factors through Circles in schools, rites of passage, and mentorship, as an active inclusion practice to make a difference in supporting healthy development when risk factors are in place.
Sisterhood seeks to intentionally identify and include girls who represent ALL socioeconomic, racial and ethnic backgrounds, with additional focus on inclusion of girls that may be underrepresented and/or experiencing higher levels of social isolation on Vashon Island. We are passionate and proud to be able to intentionally support the healthy development of protective factors for all of our girls participating in Sisterhood circles at CES, MCM and VHS
Journeymen Institute is a 501(c)3 organization based on Vashon Island, WA. Our vision is to regenerate modern society through the inspiration of young men.
We believe that all boys are born with a unique gift to bring to the world, and that healthy men are made through mentorship.
We believe that mentorship is a crucial ingredient for a healthy society, encouraging collaboration across the generations by tapping into the genius of our youth and reclaiming the wisdom within our adults.
We cultivate deeply transformational experiences for boys and men to discover and refine their authentic selves.
Our mission is to build compassionate, inspired and resilient young men through nature-based rites of passage, mentorship, and community engagement.
Through these initiatives, Journeymen is commited to addressing the root of some of the most pressing issues of the modern era: namely, sexual assault, gender-based violence, and environmental degradation.
