In 1843, Frederick Stanley founded the Stanley Works in New Britain, Connecticut. In 1854 they began manufacturing boxwood rules and in 1857 they started manufacturing levels. Hammer production began in 1863 and screwdrivers in 1870. It wasn't until 1931 that they introduced their first steel tape rule and the Powerlock tape rule came out in 1963. Then, in 1999, the first FatMax Tape Rule and Anti-Vibe Hammer hit the market.
